Sizing Guide: Choose Short or Tall
Forearm crutch sizing is based on handle height, not overall body height. To confirm your fit, stand upright in the shoes you'll normally wear and measure from the floor to your hip, then pick your size:
- Short (adults 4'2" to 5'5"): floor-to-hip measurement of 23.5" to 33.5", with the handle adjustable across 11 positions.
- Tall (users 5'3" to 6'8"): floor-to-hip measurement of 28.5" to 42.5", with the handle adjustable across 15 positions.
Weight capacity: 350 lbs. This is the spring-assisted model.
Lightweight at 1.8 lbs, 1-year parts and replacement warranty, FSA/HSA eligible. Developed through 34 clinical studies and trusted by physical therapists and professional athletes.

What makes it different
Not your standard forearm crutch.
Engineered for the long recovery
Lighter. Stronger. Kinder to your joints.
Standard crutches send every step straight into your hands, wrists and shoulders. The in-Motion Pro was designed for people who use crutches for weeks or months, not minutes.
- 1.8lb Per crutch. Light enough for all-day use
- 350lb Weight capacity with a double-reinforced strut
- 13° Grip angle that keeps your wrists in a natural position

Backed by biomechanics research
Softer impact. Energy returned. Less effort.
Since 1989, research teams at Brown, Penn State, the University of Auckland, BYU and Inje University have tested spring-loaded crutches with force plates, motion capture and muscle sensors. The results point the same way.
- 22% Smaller shock waves on ground impact Parziale & Daniels, 1989
- 33% Slower force build-up at the crutch tip Segura & Piazza, 2007
- 9.6% More forward energy at the end of each step Bateman et al., BYU
- 15% Less calf muscle effort while walking Kang et al., 2016

The Mechanical Performance of Ambulation Using Spring-loaded Axillary Crutches
Parziale & Daniels · Am. J. Phys. Med. & Rehab., 1989 · Brown University
Spring-loaded crutches produced 22% smaller shock waves at initial contact and 24% lower peak stresses, with better reported endurance and comfort.
-
Mechanics of Ambulation With Standard and Spring-Loaded Crutches
Segura & Piazza · Archives of Phys. Med. & Rehab., 2007 · Penn State
The rate of force build-up at the crutch tip dropped 33% and total ground-force impulse fell 13–26%, changes the authors linked to lower overuse-injury risk.
-
Biomechanical Evaluation of an Innovative Spring-Loaded Axillary Crutch Design
Zhang, Liu, Xie & Liger · Assistive Technology, 2011 · University of Auckland
Standard crutches showed two sharp force peaks per step; the spring design produced one smoother peak, with stored spring energy helping move the user forward.
-
Mechanical Efficiency of Walking with Spring-loaded Axillary Crutches
Zhang, Beaven, Liu & Xie · Assistive Technology, 2013 · University of Auckland
Mechanical efficiency was significantly higher with spring-loaded crutches: more walking work for the same metabolic effort.
-
An Evaluation of Mechanical Energy Transfer During Spring-loaded and Traditional Crutch Ambulation
Bateman, Seeley, Roggia, Larson & Draper · Human Performance Research Center, BYU
Spring-loaded crutches delivered 5% higher forward velocity and 9.6% more forward kinetic energy at the end of each crutch step.
-
A Biomechanical Evaluation of a Novel Mobile Walking Device
Bateman & Seeley · Journal of Undergraduate Research, BYU, 2013
Comparing the Millennial spring-assisted crutch with a traditional crutch, the team concluded the spring-assisted design decreases energy expenditure during walking.
-
Effects of Spring-Loaded Crutches on Gastrocnemius Activity and Upward Displacement of the Body During Gait
Kang, Oh & Yang · Journal of Physical Therapy Science, 2016 · Inje University
Calf muscle activity dropped significantly while the body rose higher with each step: the spring did more of the lifting so the leg did less.
Compared with standard crutches in controlled lab testing. Studies are shared for education and are not medical advice.

FAQ
Questions, answered.
Still deciding? Every customer gets a real person who is ready to listen and help.
How do I choose between Short and Tall?
Forearm crutch sizing is based on handle height, not overall height. Stand straight in your everyday shoes and measure from the floor to your hip. 32" or less: Short. Over 32": Tall. Use the “Find your size” tool above and we will pick it for you.
Will the spring feel bouncy?
No. The spring has a firm, controlled feel and runs noticeably quieter than traditional spring-loaded crutches. Most people adjust within the first day.
Is this sold as a pair?
No, this listing is one crutch, with standard and large forearm cuffs. Need two? Get the in-Motion Pro Forearm Crutch Set.
Can I use my HSA or FSA?
Yes. in-Motion crutches are HSA/FSA eligible and no prescription is needed.
How much weight does it support?
Each crutch is rated for users up to 350 lb, yet weighs only 1.8 lb.
What if they don’t fit or something breaks?
You have 30 days to return it. Every crutch is also covered by a 1-year parts and replacement warranty, and we sell replacement cuffs, tips, handles and posts.
Will insurance cover them?
Some plans reimburse forearm crutches. The HCPCS code is E0110. Check with your plan, and call us if you need documentation.
