HOW TO / TIP - Navigating Stairs when using crutches

Watch as Clayton explains how to navigate the stairs while using in-Motion Pro underarm crutches. For more tips and tricks, follow him on TikTok @claytoncrawford3.

Below is the transcript of the video:

You’re on crutches, but you're not confident going up the stairs.

Well, here's a way to use the rail while also on crutches, and I hope this helps.

So ideally, you're going to want your crutches on the same side as that surgery leg.

So you're going to be moving both crutches to the same side.

If you have these in motion Pro crutches by Millennial Medical, I would keep that side that you're going to use that hand on the outside like so.

Since the crutches are going to be on my right side, I'm keeping the right crutch on the outside.

And then I'm going to go up on that side.

Down over here just to show y'all.

Both crutches on one side.

And then the other hand is on the rail and it's the same way as going up the stairs with both crutches.

You're going to leave the crutches on the ground and then that non surgery leg is going to go up.

I'm non weight bearing, so my not my surgery legs not going to touch, but crutches on the ground, both hands supported and then non surgery leg goes up.

Almost tripped.

You got to be extra careful still.

And then coming down.

It's the opposite, the crutches and the surgery leg go down 1st.

And then the non-surgery leg follows.

So there's a way to use the crutches and the rail going up the stairs if you're not so confident in just the crutches, and I hope that helps.
